There are 52 million street lights in America, in which half are highway lights, and the other half are street lights and lights in city public areas. America owns the biggest city lighting system in the world, while there is only around 35 million in China. Since 2009, US Department of Energy has planned to use LED lights to replace the road lights, which is part of the global LED road lights. Their promotion plan and arrangement is down-to earth and precise.
Because currently the performance of LED road lights can’t meet the lighting requirement of major truck roads and the economic return is not realistic, America LED road lighting is mainly used in subsidiary roads in cities.
They started to choose a few towns of different scale in different locations and with different economic and scientific conditions as experiment cities. They have been tested with different products and scenarios in order to get complete results. After got the preliminary good results, the test scale has been expanded on a voluntary basis. According to incomplete statistics, the quantity of LED promoted is less than 5% of total road lighting. Till now, no city adopts 100% of LED road lights. Los Angeles are carrying out the hugest LED road lights plan to install 220,000 LED road lights followed by Boston.
Per the above plan, a LED Town Road Lighting Union was established in May of 2010, which provided a communication platform for experiment cities and professional departments, removed the local restriction, reduce the repeated investment and its risk, and shorten the learning period. It also makes summery after communication and provides unified standard and soft tool for the project appraisal.
